She is considered one of the most important figures in the history of merengue t\u00edpico, a traditional Dominican genre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Fefita was born in San Jos\u00e9, Santiago Rodr\u00edguez, Dominican Republic, in 1943. She began playing the accordion at a young age, and by the time she was a teenager, she was already performing professionally.
