The General Directorate of Passports is a dependency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an agency created by Decree 549-70, in 1970, with the purpose of issuing ordinary passports as travel documents to Dominican citizens and naturalized foreigners who have acquired Dominican nationality.

The main functions performed by the General Directorate of Passports are: to issue the official travel document for Dominicans, and guarantee that the passports issued are safe and reliable, respecting international standards.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Original Birth Certificate with QR code.
  • Original Identity and Electoral Card (current document).
  • Digital photograph, to be taken at the passport office (face-to-face mode), attached digitally (Web mode).
  • Receipt of Payment of Taxes from the Banco de Reservas (face-to-face mode) or online payment with a credit or debit card (web mode).

PROCEDURES TO FOLLOW

Face-to-face modality

Schedule an appointment by phone or through the passport page.
Go to the nearest passport office with the requirements described to complete your application: to request and/or withdraw the passport, the citizen must carry out the process in person.

Take a turn at information, then go to the cashier to pay for the digital photo.

Provide the documents required for data capture, fingerprints and signature (see requirements).

The digital photograph will be taken at the passport office to which it was presented and at the time indicated. Citizens who, for medical, religious or cultural reasons, wear some type of turban and/or headdress, must be completely removed for such purposes. They would be cared for by staff of the same sex, in a place that guarantees their privacy.

The Banco de Reservas Tax Payment receipt must be valid and exclusively in the name of the person requesting the passport issuance service.

The passport will be issued with the name as it appears on the Identity and Electoral Card and current birth certificate, as long as it coincides with the JCE database.

In the cases of citizens who wish to carry their married surname in their passport, they must present their updated ID where it appears.
To withdraw the passport, you must present the updated original Identity and Electoral Card and the passport delivery form (which you receive at the time of completing your application).

Additional observations face-to-face modality

The travel document will be delivered within the established time, as long as the citizen meets the requirements.

Select the First Time Adult Passport Application service.

Click on "Start Application" and fill in the corresponding information.
You must attach all the requirements mentioned above through the online application system. These must be scanned in JPG format, if a document has multiple sides attach it in an individual JPG file. These documents must not present any type of alteration, deletion or omission of information, otherwise the request will be rejected.

When attaching the Digital photograph, it must comply with the following specifications according to document 9303 of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO):
Size 2 x 2 inches (5 x 5 cm). Other formats will not be accepted.
Take the photo with a white background. No other background colors or borders will be accepted.

The photograph must show a close-up shot of the head and shoulders in a frontal pose of the subject looking directly at the camera.
Include a full face with neutral expression (eyes open, mouth closed, forehead uncovered, and ears visible).

The head and the tops of the shoulders should occupy between 70% and 80% of the photograph. There should be at least two millimeters of separation from the top of the head to the top edge of the photograph. Photos with objects, other people included in it, or with color alterations will not be accepted.

Avoid shadows or reflections on the face or background.
Do not wear colored contact lenses.

Photos must not include facial adornments or clothing such as sunglasses, earrings, chains, hats).
The contrast and lighting in the photo must be appropriate (avoid red eyes).The face must be in sharp focus.

Retouched photographs that alter the natural appearance of the skin will not be accepted.
