Health Care
Puerto Plata Health Care
The health care system in the Dominican Republic has two main options, the public health care (government hospitals) and the private one (medical clinics). Most foreigners will stick to the private clinics because the public ones still need to go a long way to match the level of care most foreigners demand. Puerto Plata has important medical centers with cutting edge technology, such as the Bournigal, Clinica Gregorio Hernandez, and Clinica Brugal. Even larger, more specialized centers with nuclear medicine are also available in Santo Domingo (Plaza de la Salud) or Santiago (HOMS).

Emergencies
Puerto Plata emergencies are handled by calling 911 as in the USA or Canada, and for cases where an ambulance is not needed, but more an officer, it is good to know that all tourist destinations in the Dominican Republic have the support on the street of the white and blue Politur agents, the gray uniformed local police, the Digesett transit agents or the highway road assistance agents from the MOPC. Local 911 handles the ambulances as well as all the institutions above just by dialing 911 on the phone as we all know.
