Emergency Contacts
The main contact in case of emergency in the Dominican Republic is the 911, and works the same way as in other countries. In the tourist destinations within the island, the Tourist Police Politur patrol the areas and are much quicker to respond if an incident happens within their reach.
Â
If someone has an injury-sustaining accident, 911 is the way to go to get quicker ambulance response. For minor vehicle collisions (fender bender) it is best to have a Digesett transit police agent at hand; they will go to the scene if present near it. They will also make the accident report and protect both drivers from going personal against each other.
Road Assistance and Medical Centers
The road assistance from the MOPCC department (Dominican Public Works Ministry) handles the highway incidents regarding vehicle breakdown, flat tires, and any sort of problems that some people get involved in. Their primary work is to protect drivers when traveling long distances in the highway system, and provide free assistance and protection if a car is unable to move due to any technical problems.
Â
Public and private medical centers are available as well in case of an emergency, it is always important to know their locations in case you or someone else are not feeling well and might need assistance. 911 must be called and as usual, they will speed through traffic and provide assistance during the transfer to a medical facility. The local Police (Policia Nacional) can be contacted via 911 also, though having the direct local contact number in town is helpful and can prove to work quicker.
